One Million Screenshots!
This week we have reached one million website screenshots. That's a lot of work since February 2005. Hopefully, the next million will go a little faster because all queues are usually full. I have another exam on Tuesday, so wish me luck. After that I hope to make swift progress on Browsershots version 0.3 on the new server.

Welcome digg users!
At the moment there are lots of visitors from digg.com. I really like the load testing for the system. The downside is that your jobs will take a little longer to get processed.
There are over 20000 jobs in the queue now, and new jobs will probably have to wait one week on average. But some browsers (e.g. Safari) are faster than others because they run on dedicated machines.
Update: Over 30000 queued jobs around 19:00 UTC, third most popular on del.icio.us with 123 recent bookmarks. First occurences of wiki vandalism are easily reverted. I'm busy tweaking the server performance.

4 months of beta, 600 revisions, 100000 jobs processed
Browsershots has been in public beta test for 4 months now. We've come a long way! The Subversion repository of the ShotServer contains 600 revisions. And today we have processed job number one hundred thousand. Champagne!

Queue empty
We have finally processed all of the 10000 jobs from the del.icio.us rush of May 18th and 19th. If the queue is empty, 14 free screenshots of your website will be made in less than 10 minutes. How many jobs are in the queue now?

10000 jobs in the queue
There are now more than 10000 jobs in the queue, and the latency for new jobs is 56 hours. The screenshot factories are running at full load, but the demand is so high that we can't keep up.
We are working hard to finish version 0.3.0 soon. Then the ShotServer will have to do less work und should be able to handle more factories.

Hello del.icio.us!
Most of our visitors are currently coming from http://del.icio.us/.
I added a 60 seconds auto refresh to the recent screenshots page. It's fun to have it on the second dualhead screen and watch interesting screenshots roll in.

Hello Freshmeat!
After the release announcement on Freshmeat, the job queue is getting longer and longer. Please be patient. Currently there are 8 screenshot factories on 2 machines. If you have some bandwidth and CPU cycles, join the team and run a screenshot factory.
Update: The rush is over. The queue was up to 2 hours and is now clear again. Thanks for the stress test, I have found some bugs already. One caused /tmp/ to fill up with temporary uncompressed images and led to a short outage around 15:15 UTC. And multi-page overlap merging occasionally seems to have problems with non-scrolling backgrounds and animated pictures. Oh, and pop-ups make really dumb screenshots.
Overall a good start for Browsershots 0.2 - any ideas for arranging the many different-sized previews on the screenshots page?

Beta test now open
We are now open for very early beta testing. The server interface has not really been frozen, but it looks quite ok so far. We are currently running MSIE 3.0 (on Windows 95 in QEMU 0.6.2), Konqueror 3.3, and Firefox 1.0, at screen resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, and 1280x1024, all on one machine with Linux (Debian Sarge, Kernel 2.6).
